Multi-threading means building relationships with several members of a buying committee rather than relying on a single contact. It protects a deal against the champion leaving, surfaces objections earlier, and is one of the stronger predictors of whether an enterprise opportunity closes.
Two ways. The champion leaves, and the deal has no memory of itself. Or the champion stays and quietly loses an internal argument you never saw, because objections raised in rooms you are not in cannot be answered.
Enough to cover the roles that can stop the deal, not a headcount target. Four contacts in one function is one thread wearing four badges. The question is whether the economic buyer, the practitioner and the blocking function are each in a conversation.
Because champions often prefer to control the narrative, and asking to speak to their boss can read as going around them. Multi-threading works when it is framed as serving people who have different questions, and it fails when it looks like an escalation.
Reach into the people sales cannot get to. Contact-level advertising and account-specific content can put material in front of a security reviewer or a CFO who will never take a call, which is exactly the part of the buying committee that quietly decides.
